The Devil’s Tattoos(audio)/A Children’s Story

The town was small and so was the high school. Jerry had always craved attention from his classmates and his friends. However Jerry had few friends even though he tried very hard to impress those around him.

His parents were of the Baptist faith and so was Jerry. He wasn’t very interested in church but went simply to please his family and calm the seas in his household.

He had a very devout Sunday school teacher who was very strict and taught directly from the bible. This particular day he was teaching about not marking up the temple (your body) because it was a chosen vessel of God. It was to be kept free of tattoos and such. He was told that tattoos were not of God but one way Satan deceived people causing them injuries and infections. He used this verse as his text: Lev 19:28

28 “’Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.
NIV

Jerry was unimpressed by the lesson and thought he would go check the tattoos out at the local mall.

The walls were filled with all sorts of pictures showing how tattoos would look once they were inked on the body part. Thinking he would impress all of his friends, he told them he was thinking of getting a cool tattoo put on his bum.

“My body belongs to me and my spirit I give to the Lord. I will do what I wish to my body regardless of what some teacher preaches to me!” He boldly announced.

The next week Jerry went back to the tattoo parlor and chose the picture of the devil to put on his bum. The picture was one of Satan laughing wildly. Jerry thought it was very neat and since few would see it, it seemed to pass his test.

Time went by and Jerry grew up and went into the military. His buddies saw the tattoo of the devil on his bum and commented.

“Just you wait until you are in some fox hole and bullets are flying all over the place. You will think twice of that tattoo on your behind then. God is the only one who can protect you then young man.” Pete muttered as they got out of the shower.

“The devil can have this ole body but my spirit will go to God!” Jerry smirked.

It came to be that his platoon of men came under a vicious attack by the enemy and Jerry was hit by a grenade. Pieces of his body went everywhere. His buddies waited until the firing stopped and went to retrieve Jerry’s body. They found a finger, a few teeth, his dog tags, and the tattoo on a section of his behind.

“Well I guess Satan took Jerry’s body since he gave it to him. These few pieces are all that is left of him. I hope God took his spirit.” Ronald added as they collected as many pieces of Jerry as they could, putting them in a box to send back home.

Some people think that marking up the body which is the temple of the Holy Spirit is a cool thing to do.

They speak before they think it through very well. If God did not want our bodies tattooed He must have had a very good reason. It is not a wise thing to go against what God has written in His word. So it would be a very wise thing to listen or read God’s word and apply it to our lives. Mocking God and His word were Jerry’s misfortune and Satan took total advantage of what he did.

God’s word never changes. It is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Jerry paid a terrible price for his lack of wisdom.

Question: Why did Jerry get a tattoo?
