GOLD COAST - Queensland Police have issued an urgent update regarding three children reported missing from the Gold Coast, including a newborn baby just weeks old, as concerns grow for their welfare.

LATEST UPDATE

Police confirmed they have received more than 50 credible sightings since issuing a public appeal yesterday. Investigators are following several strong leads but stress the children remain unlocated and vulnerable.

Details of the Missing Children

The children were last seen in the Robina area on Tuesday afternoon. They include:

  • Baby Mia - 3 weeks old
  • Lucas Thompson - 4 years old
  • Sophie Thompson - 6 years old

Police Concerns Grow

Detective Inspector Sarah Henderson of the Gold Coast Child Protection Unit expressed increasing concern as more time passes without locating the children:

"Baby Mia requires specialized care and medication that she hasn't had access to. The two older children haven't attended school and we've had no contact from family members who would normally be in touch. This is completely out of character."

Police have established that the children were last seen with their mother, 28-year-old Claire Thompson, who is also being sought for questioning. Authorities stress she is not considered a suspect at this stage but may hold vital information.

Search Operation Expands

The search operation has expanded across southeast Queensland with:

  • Over 60 police officers dedicated to the case
  • Helicopters deployed for aerial searches
  • Coordination with NSW police regarding border checks
  • Public appeals for dashcam footage from major highways

Community Response

The local community has rallied with volunteers joining organized search parties. Robina Town Centre has set up a community support hub where residents can receive updates and provide information.

"Everyone's devastated - we're a tight-knit community. We've got teams checking security cameras, putting up posters, doing whatever we can to help bring these kids home safe."

Family Appeals for Safe Return

The children's father, David Thompson, made an emotional plea at a police press conference:

Father making emotional appeal
"Please, if you have our babies, just let them come home. Mia needs her medicine. Lucas and Sophie must be so scared. We're not angry, we just want them back safe."

What Happens Next

Police anticipate several possible scenarios:

  • Voluntary return of the children
  • Discovery through public tip-offs
  • Medical facility identification
  • Traffic stop recognition
